About the Centre for Deliberative Democracy and Global Governance
The Centre for Deliberative Democracy and Global Governance aims to transform democracies to be come more inclusive and sensitive to good reasons. It is globally recognized for its research excellence, interdisciplinary collaboration, and culture of mutual support.
Since 2014, the Centre has published ten books, over a hundred journal articles and book chapters, organised five international workshops and conferences and hosted over 90 visitors from all over the world.
The Centre runs the Deliberative Democracy Summer School and hosts a seminar series on deliberative democracy and related topics. It is also the home of the Journal of Deliberative Democracy.
As a research-intensive unit, the Centre has a strong track record of receiving and completing grants from the Australian Research Council. These grants include a Laureate Fellowship, a Federation Fellowship, Future Fellowship, Discovery Early Career Research Fellowship, six Discovery projects and two Linkage Projects.
The Centre is committed to action-based research in collaboration with industry partners. This involves the research, design and facilitation of public dialogues on important issues, including the Australian Citizens’ Parliament, the Global Citizens’ Assembly on Genome Editing, and Connecting to Parliament.
Before moving to the University of Canberra in 2014, the Centre was based at the Australian National University.
The Centre welcomes PhD students and visiting fellows specialising in deliberative democracy research from various theoretical, disciplinary, and methodological traditions. We are especially interested in engaging with scholars working on democratisation, global governance, environmental politics, social movements, identity politics, mixed methods research, and political theory.
