Dr Ben Lyons received his PhD in Mass Communication and Media Arts from Southern Illinois University in 2016. He has held posts at the Annenberg Public Policy Center at the University of Pennsylvania and the Department of Politics at the University of Exeter. He is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Communication at the University of Utah.
Ben’s research focuses on the intersections of politics, science, and communication technology. He has published work examining the roles that group affiliations and media use play in distorting policy debates. He has also studied public perception of politicians’ social media messages and their unintended effects on the rest of the communication environment. Finally, he is more broadly interested in the way digital media fit within deliberative systems.
