Kimmo Grönlund is Professor of Political Science and Director of the Social Science Research Institute at Åbo Akademi University. He is Director of “the Future of Democracy” – a Center of Excellence in public opinion research and Director of the Finnish National Election Study, as well as a Member of the Steering Committee of the ECPR Standing Group on Democratic Innovations. His team has conducted five population-based experiments in citizen deliberation. His article ‘Do discussions in like-minded groups necessarily lead to more extreme opinions? Deliberative democracy and group polarization’, co-authored together with Kim Strandberg and Staffan Himmelroos, is the winner of the 2020 Meisel-Laponce Award for the best article published in International Political Science Review in the previous four years.
