Maija Setälä is Professor in Political Science at the University of Turku. She specializes in democratic theory, especially theories of deliberative democracy, democratic innovations, e.g. citizens’ initiatives and deliberative mini-publics, and political trust. She has conducted various pilot projects and experiments on deliberative mini-publics. Setälä is currently the PI of the consortium “Participation in Long-Term Decision-Making” (PALO), funded by the Strategic Research Council at the Academy of Finland, and has led several other research projects. Setälä has published a number of books and articles in journals such as European Journal of Political Research, European Political Science Review and Political Behavior.
