Nitya Reddy joined the Centre for Deliberative Democracy and Global Governance in 2022 as a research intern. Nitya is in her second year of a Bachelor’s Degree in Politics and International Relations at the University of Canberra. During her internship, Nitya will work in Centre’s current project on Democratic Resilience: The Public Sphere and Extremist Attacks (led by Associate Prof Selen Ercan and Prof John Dryzek at the University of Canberra). Within this project, Nitya will explore the international best practices in countering violent extremism, with a particular focus on New Zealand’s response to 2019 Christchurch attacks. Through this research, Nitya aims to formulate recommendations for government agencies and civil society organizations involved in countering violent extremism in Australia. Nitya’s internship project is supervised by Associate Prof Selen Ercan and Dr Jordan McSwiney.
