Karin Bäckstrand is a Professor in Environmental Social Science at the Department of Political Science at Stockholm University. This new position is intended to strengthen environmental social science research and teaching at the faculty of social science as well as across faculties at Stockholm university through new collaborative research projects and new master and PhD program in environment and sustainability.
Karin’s work is published in journals Global Environmental Politics, European Journal of International Relations, Global Environmental Change, Environmental Politics and Journal of European Public Policy. She is co-editor of the book Environmental Politics and Deliberative Democracy. Examining the Promise of New Modes of Governance (Edward Elgar, 2010), The Research Handbook on Climate Governance (with Eva Lövbrand, Edward Elgar, 2015) and Rethinking the Green State: Environmental Governance towards Climate and Sustainability Transition (with Annica Kronsell, Routledge, 2015). She is guest editor of a forthcoming special issue of Environmental Politics titled “Non-state actors in the new landscape of climate cooperation (with Jonathan Kuyper, Björn-Ola Linnér and Eva Lövbrand)
